Radiesse is a dermal filler which can also be used for filling lines around the nose and mouth. In addition, it may be used for cheek augmentation. Radiesse differs from hyaluronic acid fillers in that it is composed of calcium microspheres which promote the formation of new collagen, rather than replacing collagen. It has the advantage of lasting approximately 12-15 months and is therefore considered a semi-permanent filler.
Treatment with fillers should be planned 1 week prior to any important events. One can expect some redness, swelling and occasional bruising in the week following treatment. While makeup can be used to cover these areas, we do ask that people avoid the sun and extreme cold temperatures while these areas are healing. Prior to treatment with a filler one should avoid the use of aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (such as ibuprofen), St. John’s Wort, and high dose Vitamin E. By avoiding these medications one can decrease bruising (a normal side effect of treatment). To avoid any discomfort, we recommend a topical anesthetic be used a few hours prior to any treatment. Call the office to inquire about topical anesthetics.
