Scars and Stretchmarks

When we have an accident or injury, our bodies work to quickly repair the damage. Sometimes this fast repair can result in a scar. Stretchmarks occur when elastin fibers in the skin break rather than stretch. It is not unusual to see them after pregnancy or sudden changes in weight. Acne scars are the result of inflammation and the body’s defense mechanism where powerful enzymes are released to kill bacteria but end up affecting the surrounding tissue.

How Does The Nordlys Treatment Work?

Nordlys Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®) treatment alone can produce a significant improvement in scars, particularly in surgical or trauma scars. It stimulates a vascular response in the blood vessels around the scar, which in turn leads to collagen replacement.
Nordlys FRAX 1550nm laser treatment works by creating
very small controlled islands of heat damage, surrounded by normal healthy skin. When the body repairs this controlled damage, new collagen is deposited in the treated area. Research shows that a combination treatment using Nordlys SWT followed by the FRAX 1550 produces an improved result with less treatments.

Can I Be Treated?

FRAX1550 treatments can be used on most types of scars and stretchmarks. The best results will be found on scars or stretchmarks that still have color. Keloid scars (where the new scar tissue extends beyond the original injury) normally require pre-treatment with steroid injections—your provider will be able to advise on this. Nordlys has preprogrammed settings for different skin types that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.

How Long Does A Nordlys Treatment Take?

The FRAX 1550 treatment normally involves the use of a topical numbing cream applied 30-40 minutes before the treatment. Typically, the procedure takes 15-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.

Do I Need To Take Any Precautions Before Or After The Treatment?

It is important to avoid sun and self-tanning products before and during the treatment period. It is possible to treat tanned skin, but sun exposure prior to treatment can make it less effective and less comfortable. You will get better results if you use a normal moisturizing cream before and after treatment.
Talk to your provider if you are prone to acne outbreaks or cold sores. After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days, or use sun protection (minimum SPF 30+) if sun exposure cannot be avoided.

How Many Nordlys Treatments Do I Need?

Typically, you will need 3-4 treatments but your provider may decide to modify the intensity or number based on your needs. Results are seen gradually after each treatment.

Does The Treatment Hurt?

Treatment may be a little uncomfortable, which is why we recommend the use of a numbing cream. After the treatment, there may a few hours that your skin may feel as if you have a light sunburn.
