Vascular Lesions

Vascular lesions are the result of numerous or large vessels that form directly underneath your skin. They can be found all over the body and in many shapes and sizes. They may be referred to as port wine stains, broken capillaries, diffuse redness, hemangiomas or cherry angiomas. Nordlys offers you the solution to safely and more comfortably treat your vascular concerns.

How Does The Nordlys Treatment Work?

Short, safe bursts of intense pulse light (often referred to as lasers) are directed at the skin. Nordlys utilizes
a patented dual mode filtration technology called Selective Waveband Technology (SWT). It filters the light to ensure the wavelengths used are absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood. The light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the wall of the vessels, causing the vessels to gradually disappear after treatment. To ensure the best light absorption, a thin layer of gel (like that used in ultrasound examinations) is applied to your skin before treatment.

Can I Be Treated?

Many vascular problems can be addressed with the Nordlys system. Treatments are most effective in patients with light skin who are not suntanned at the time of treatment. When your skin is less tan, the contrast between the blood vessels and the background color of your skin is greater, making the treatment more selective and more comfortable. However, the Nordlys has pre- programmed settings for different skin types to deliver the correct energy for your complexion. Your provider will help you determine the best treatment options.

How Long Does A Nordlys Treatment Take?

The treatment time depends on the size of the area to be treated. With each pulse of light, multiple vessels are addressed, shortening your treatment time drastically. A single session typically lasts 10-20 minutes.

Do I Need To Take Any Precautions Before Or After The Treatment?

The light used is completely safe, visible light. However, it is important to avoid tanning (sun, tanning beds or self tanning products) before and during
the treatment period. Tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective and less comfortable. Generally, no special care is necessary after treatment, but people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cold compress (a cold damp cloth) to the area immediately after the treatment. After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days even if there is no sign of inflammation in the treated area. Use sun protection (minimum 30+ SPF) if sun exposure cannot be avoided.

How Many Nordlys Treatments Do I Need?

The number of treatments depends on the location and number of vessels to be treated. Your provider will discuss the best course of treatments based on your concerns.

Does The Treatment Hurt?

No anesthetics or numbing creams are required and many patients describe the treatment as practically pain-free, like a flick from a rubber band followed by a sensation similar to the feeling of gentle warmth after a day on the beach.
